2018 QS Rankings: 10 PKU subjects rank among top 20

Peking University, February 28, 2018: On February 28, 2018, Quacquarelli Symonds released its latest World University Rankings by Subject. 10 subjects of Peking University rank within the world’s top 20. Among them, Modern Languages and Linguistics rates as No.6 and NO.10 respectively.

The ranking analyzes 48 subjects and 5 subject areas at over 1,100 institutions in 151 countries and regions. There are 807 subjects of 104 Chinese universities in the top 500. According to QS, the ranking was compiled by using four sources. The first two are QS’s global surveys of academics and employers in the past 6 years, which are used to assess institutions’ international reputation in each subject. The second two indicators assess research impacts, based on research citations per paper and h-index in the relevant subject. These are sourced from Elsevier’s Scopus database, the world’s most comprehensive research citations database.

Besides Modern Languages and Linguistics, other world’s top 20 subjects in PKU are Chemistry (14), Computer Science & Information Systems (17), Dentistry (15), Engineering Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing (18), Geography (20), Materials Science (18), Mathematics (10), and Physics & Astronomy (18).

Background information:

QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). It comprises annually global subject rankings, alongside five independent regional tables (Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, the Arab Region, and BRICS). QS also publishes MBA rankings every year which explore the best business school qualifications worldwide. In addition, QS World University Rankings is the only international ranking to have received International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval, and is viewed as one of the most widely read of its kind.
