Peking University, Jan. 17, 2018: On the morning of January 8, the Central Committee of the Chinese Government and State Council gathered in the Great Hall of the People for the 2017 National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony. National leaders Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Zhang Gaoli, and Wang Huning attended the ceremony to present the recipients with their awards.
Peking University, as the primary research institute, received 7 awards, including 3 second-class National Natural Sciences awards, 1 second-class National Technology Innovation award, and 3 second-class National Awards for Advancement in Science and Technology. Additionally, PKU as a contributing research institute, received 3 second-class National Science and Technology awards.
Background Information:
The National Science and Technology Awards are judged annually, and include what people have come to term “the big national three” – the National Natural Sciences Award, National Technology Innovation Award, and National Award for Advancement in Science and Technology. Additionally, the awards ceremony includes the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China conferred on international scientists or international organizations, as well as the highest accolades for domestic achievements in science and technology.
