PKUHSC establishes Nephrology Information Research Center

 Peking University, December 18, 2017: The establishment of the Nephrology Information Research Center of Peking University Health Science Center was officially approved On December 14, 2017. Affiliated with the Health Care Information Center of Peking University, it is the first information research center for nephrology in China. It aims to promote the application of health care big data to the field of nephrology. Professor Zhao Minghui from Peking University First Hospital is the Director of the Center.

Renal disease poses challenges for both global public health and China’s health and medical systems, creating much stress on construction of healthy China. To address these issues, Professor Wang Haiyan, a pioneer of Chinese nephrology studies, proposed the construction of the China Kidney Disease Network (CK-NET) in 2014. Since then, she has made internationally-recognized progress with her team. In this context, the Nephrology Information Research Center was established by Nephrology Department of Peking University jointly with Health Care Information Center of Peking University. Through promoting the application of big data in clinical practice, the Center hopes to assist the decision-making process on prevention and control of renal disease in China.


Nephrology studies of Peking University Health Science Center have remained in high academic regard both domestically and abroad. The introduction of the Nephrology Information Research Center as part of the Health Care Information Center of Peking University will further facilitate studies on renal disease monitoring and disease burden, prevention and control strategies, and clinical research.
