Professor Tu Pengfei Wins Wu Jieping Medicine Innovation Award

Peking University, Nov. 28, 2017: On November 10, 2017, Professor Tu Pengfei, Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, won the 2017 Wu Jieping Medicine Innovation Award.
Professor Tu has long been engaged in the research and promotion of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) resources, active substances, the creation of new drugs, and quality control. He set up the high- and steady-yield cultivation technology of the cistanche tubolosa, desert cistanche, and their hosts. He promoted the plantation of two kinds of cistanche and their hosts in Hetian, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Alashan Desert, Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, to altogether 960 thousand mu, which solved the cistanche resource problem, created a new model in the sustainable desert-control and targeted measures to help people lift themselves out of poverty, and achieved great ecological, social and economic benefits.
Professor Tu established 13 techniques in effectively discovering and analyzing TCM components, clarifyied 70 TCM active substances, developed two innovative drugs, and set up the quality standards for 45 kinds of TCM. He has made outstanding contributions to the development of the cause of TCM. Wu Jieping Medicine Innovation Award is the highest individual prize in our nation’s health and hygiene field. This year there were six young and middle-aged professional awardees, among whom Professor Tu is the only winner in the pharmaceutical field.
