School of Foreign Languages holds expert review meeting

 Peking University, Nov. 21, 2017: From October 13 to November 13, 2017, the Peking University School of Foreign Languages (SFL) held an expert review meeting for self-evaluation of academic degree authorization center. This meeting included the primary discipline of foreign language and culture in addition to the master of translation and interpreting (MTI).

The experts who conducted the review of the foreign language and literature department included Professor Zhang Jian, dean of the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU) and Professor Miao Xingwei, dean of School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Beijing Normal University, as well other experts in the field.

Reviewing experts for academic degree granting of MTI (English) included Professor Liu Heping, dean of School of Translation and Interpreting Introduction, Beijing Language and Culture University and Professor Zhu Yuan, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Renmin University of China.

Reviewing experts for MTI (Japanese) included Professor Shao Jianguo, Dean of Japanese Department, BFSU; Professor Ou Wendong, University of International Relations, and others.

Professor Ning Qi, Dean of SFL, Professor Wu Jiewei, Deputy dean of SFL, Professor Wang Jihui, head of MTI Education Center and other faculty members of SFL also participated in reviewing.


Review meeting for master’s academic degree granting of MTI (Japanese)

The professors in charge of the academic degree authorization reported on its construction and development including the foundational principles of educational philosophy, faculty development, teaching resources, research status, talent cultivation and international exchange. The reviewing experts extended full affirmation of the discipline development and academic leadership of SFL on both the discipline of foreign language and literature and MTI. They also expected a continued dominant position of the relevant disciplines in China by utilizing the academic advantages of SFL and Peking University. The reviewing experts offered tailored suggestions on talent introduction, enrollment scale, teaching resources and international exchange for the different disciplines.

At the conclusion of the review, Professor Ning Qi extended his gratitude for the opinions of the experts who participated in the review process. Those opinions are of great significance to the talent cultivation and development of the disciplines of foreign language and literature as well as MTI degree granting. They are also helpful for SFL to self-evaluate and further improve in its academic level and teaching quality.
