Nov 17, 2017
Peking University, Oct. 31, 2017: Led by National Development and Reform Commission and regulated by the Central Military Commission Logistics Department, the national engineering laboratory of medical big data applied technology (hereafter referred to as “the laboratory”) has been formally initiated. General Hospital of PLA and Peking University participated in the construction. Zhan Qimin, vice president of Peking University and director of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), was appointed as the first chair of technology committee of the laboratory.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the CMC Logistics Department, National Development and Reform Commission, General Hospital of PLA, and the constructors of the laboratory. He Kunlun, vice president of General Hospital of PLA, hosted the meeting.

The laboratory is constructed based on the project plan of National Development and Reform Commission, and led by General Hospital of PLA. 18 higher institutions, state organs, and enterprises participated in the construction. The laboratory will bring out the laboratory director-responsible system under the leadership of the board, and set up a technology committee. Ren Guoquan, president of General Hospital of PLA, was appointed as the first president of the board and the laboratory director. Other experts from Peking University in the technology committee includes Academician E Weinan, Academician Zhang Pingwen, and Liu Yucun, vice chairman of Peking University Council of secretary of PKUHSC.

Ren Guoquan reported the plan of the laboratory’s construction and development. The laboratory serves for the need of medical big data application in China. It is supported by building innovation platform and its goal is to provide technical support for the technical progress and industrial development to the application of medical big data in China.

Then Zhan Qimin delivered a keynote report titled “Health and Medical Big Data Assist the Construction of China”. He emphasized that health and medical big data is one of the important supporting technologies in the frontier technology of Chinese medical research, and research projects concerned with it have been started by many countries around the world. As the first key laboratories on big data innovations organized by national government, the laboratory is guided by needs and powered by technological innovation. The laboratory is going to contribute to Chinese people’s health and prompt the medical big data technology towards an engineering, industrializing and applied improvement.
