Opening Ceremony of the First “PKU-KWM Global Legal and Business Executive Program” held

Peking University, October 24, 2017:  The first opening ceremony of the PKU-KWM Global Legal and Business Executive Program (hereafter abbreviated “GLBE”) was held at the Peking University Law School. The opening ceremony was hosted by Yang Xiaolei, the vice president of PKU Law School.

“As the first students of this program, we also carry responsibility to learn and pass forward our mentors’ enthusiasm, ideas, and faith,” said Yu Mei, a student and an executive board member of the Bank of Singapore, Greater China area. She also mentioned that for “the Belt and Road” Initiative, China would need more talents with international views and transcultural abilities, among which law and business are the most necessary and critical ones. Finally, she showed her resolution of building GLBE to a brand project.

Mr. Deng Zhonghan, deputy to the National People’s Congress and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered the keynote report on the future world from a technological view and the challenges proposed to “future leaders”.

Mr. Huang Qisen, a member of the national committee of CPPCC, and the cooperation partner of KWN Academy, also gave a speech as an encouragement to the students. He emphasized the importance of improvements in legislation and the importance of integrity in economic and business relations.

In the end of the opening ceremony, Wang Junfeng, the international president of King & Wood Mallesons, along with Zhang Shouwen, awarded students with badges, acknowledging that they have formally become members of GLBE.

The opening ceremony of GLBE ended with a closing speech from Vice President Yang Xiaolei, expressing his expectations and confidence in the new students.

Other guests attending the ceremony included leadership from Peking University Law School and business leaders from various industries.

The PKU-KWM Global Legal and Business Executive Program (GLBE) is established by Peking University (PKU) Law School and the KWM Foundation, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), and KWM Academy. Supported by the collective knowledge, resources, and practical experience of these founding institutions, GLBE aims to create a world-class, China-based platform dedicated to cultivating senior legal professionals and business executives.
