Peking University, October 25, 2017: According to World Bank, the International Summer School on “Education and Development” hosted by China Institute for Educational Finance Research (CIEFR), Peking University, received China World Bank Group Partnership Facility (CWPF) in October, 2017. It is one of the three projects that are sponsored by CWPF, the other two being: systematic organization of China’s experience in education and development of all sorts and levels, hosting annual global conference on equality and excellence of primary education.
The summer school aims to support educational development and south-south learning, and share successful experience in education with developing countries, especially countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative. In the past 3 decades, China has achieved great success in making nine-year compulsory education universal, enlarging education opportunities, reducing adult illiteracy. The Global Practice Education Department of World Bank believes that China sets a good example for other developing countries in innovating educational finance policy and mechanism.
CIEFR was officially established on October 27, 2005, by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Peking University. It is China’s first academic institution for educational finance research. In the past decade, CIEFR has conducted productive research on educational finance and development and accumulated empirical experience in the study of China’s educational finance policies.
On July 16, 2015, World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim and Finance Minister of China Lou Jiwei signed an agreement to establish CWPF with 50 million dollars to help to reduce poverty. The trust fund aims to enhance the cooperation between China and the World Bank Group and leverage financial and knowledge-based resources to help developing countries achieve inclusive and sustainable development. It will finance investment projects, operations, knowledge development and human-resource cooperation at both global and regional levels.
