Peking University Rowing Team wins the Award of Merit in the “Ba He Boat Race” Challenge

Peking University, June 1, 2017: On May 21, 2017, Peking University Rowing Team won the Award of Merit in the event of Men's Eights (8) from the university group at the 3rd “Ba He Boat Race” Challenge.

 
The match, aiming at promoting the development of mass sports, cultivating the spirit of college students and enriching the sports culture on campus, was co-hosted by Chinese Rowing Association School Committee, the Center of Water Sports in Shaanxi Province, Xi'an Jiaotong University, etc. 32 teams together with over 300 members were attracted to this event.
 
Rowing has a long history in Peking University, the first competition between Peking University and Tsinghua University hosted in 1999 has been recognized as a significant milestone in the history of Chinese University rowing race. Although Peking University Rowing Team was dismissed temporarily, it came back on stage in the fall of 2016 as the re-establishment of Peking University’s Rowing Association.
 
Still in its infancy, the reborn rowing team is composed of common students, Zheng Zhong from the Department of Physical Education acts as their tutor, and PKU Rowing Team alumni as well as the professional coach from rowing club are responsible for the training.
 
Over 2 months, members of the Rowing Association had gone through numerous practices at the National Olympic Water Sports Center, Shunyi District. After a period of high-intensity training, 9 athletics were picked out to compete in the match, and won the Award of Merit in the end.
