Second Digital Humanities Forum held at PKU

Peking University, June 1, 2017: The Second Digital Humanities Forum, themed “Interaction and Coexistence: Digital Humanities and Historical Research”, was held by the Library and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of PKU on May 5th. Eminent scholars from home and abroad gave reports related to digital humanities and historical research in the forum. PKU Assistant President Wang Bo, Library Director Zhu Qiang and Deputy Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences Qu Jingdong, and around 300 researchers, teachers and students from China, North America and Europe attended the forum. The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice Director of PKU library Nie Hua.
 
The forum
 
“Digital Humanities” provides new tools for historians to redefine and answer historical questions, and the successful usage of digital technology also spurs the development of digital humanities Research. After a series of keynote reports and discussion from vary aspects, the forum showed the international and domestic academic success in relevant research fields, which indicated the integration between historical research and digital humanities.
 
The conference was broadcast live to its audiences from home and abroad, and interacted with participants through Wechat Group; according to statistics, nearly 300 people attended the online conference.

In addition, the publication ceremony of “Guide on PKU Digital Humanities”, which aims to elevate the interdisciplinary cooperation of humanities related disciplines, was also released on the forum. This Guide would be edited by Peking University and presented to PKU’s faculty and students.
