Peking University, May 25, 2017: From May 17 to 18, the Agreement Signing Ceremony for Sunan (Southern Jiangsu) Institute of PKU CCME (College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering) was held in Jiangsu Province. On the afternoon of May 17, Party Secretary of Jiangsu Province Li Qiang met with PKU representatives, including PKU President Li Jianhua, PKU Vice President Wang Jie, Professor of Molecular Medicine Institute (IMM) Cheng Heping, and Dean of PKU College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME) Gao Yiqin.
Li Qiang spoke highly of the strategic cooperation between Jiangsu and Peking University. With its advanced high-tech industry, perfect social services and profound cultural heritage, Jiangsu province is suitable and qualified for cooperation in various forms. Sunan Institute of CCME would introduce more advanced technologies and industries. He also expressed a cordial welcome for PKU graduates to work or start their own business in Jiangsu.
Lin Jianhua pointed out the importance Peking University has attached to the strategic cooperation with Jiangsu province. PKU has established two institutes in Jiangsu, which would help promote the development of regional industries and gather high-level talents. He believes that with the support of the local government, PKU’s institutes in Jiangsu would grow by leaps and bounds, and thus contribute to the development of both Jiangsu and Peking University.
On the morning of May 18, the opening ceremony of “Sunan institute of PKU CCME”—an institute jointly established by PKU, Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Changshu Municipal Government, was held in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. More than 100 representatives from Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the local government attended the ceremony. President Lin and Secretary Zhou signed the agreement on behalf of each party.

Secretary of Changshu Municipal Party Committee Wang Yang delivered a speech on the opening ceremony, saying that the signing agreement embodies the recognition of Changshu’s innovation environment. The Changshu government would promote the construction of the Institute and explore a new cooperation model.
Gao Yiqin, dean of CCME, introduced the basic situation of Sunan Institute. He stressed that the Institute is the extension of PKU’s scientific ideas and spirit as it combines various resources and advantages and provides solid support for the development of Peking University.

Liu Qing, executive president of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute(JITRI) introduced the new development model of the institute which provides strong support for the cooperation. By such systematic innovation, he hoped that Sunan Institute could attract more outstanding scholars.
On behalf of each party, Wang Jie, Hu Yidong and Zhou Qindi signed the "Cooperative Agreement on the Construction of the Sunan Institute of PKU’s CCME".

Lin Jianhua, on behalf of Peking University, expressed gratitude to Jiangsu provincial government and JITRI. He readdressed that Peking University attached great significance to the cooperation with a hope to promote the development of both the local economy and Peking University.
Lin also visited the Suzhou Biomedical Engineering Technology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences during his stay in Suzhou. This visit was accompanied by PKU representatives from relevant departments and institutions.
