Peking University and Boehringer Ingelheim form Strategic Partnership in Early Disease Research

Peking University, May 20, 2017: On May 16, the signing ceremony of Peking University and Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) strategic partnership agreement and the first research forum were held at the Lake View Hotel.

The strategic partnership aims to advance early science innovation, and thus caters to the medical needs in cancer, cancer immunology and immune modulation, respiratory, cardiometabolic and central nervous system diseases. The partnership includes various forms of cooperation: joint specific project-based research, a post-doctorate fellowship program and BI investigators. Research teams at PKU will work closely with BI researchers to make full use of their respective expertise in pharmaceutical research to identify new targets and medicines.

Boehringer Ingelheim is one of the top 20 companies in the world pharmaceutical industry with an outlay of more than three billion euros per year. Its main business areas are human pharmaceuticals, animal health and biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing. Peking University’s strong disciplines relevant to drug research and development include life sciences, chemistry, medical and pharmaceutical sciences.
 

Signing of the strategic cooperation agreement
 
With the collaboration with Peking University, one of the world’s top research universities, BI hopes to develop more groundbreaking and first-class new drugs, and aspires to raise its research and development in Asia to new levels. Peking University is also proud to work with Boehringer Ingelheim. PKU Executive Vice President Wang Jie said the collaboration meets the mutual target for excellence, providing innovative solution to cover the gaps between basic science and medical development, and thus benefiting patients home and abroad.

The first research forum was held after the signing ceremony. Five scientists from Boehringer Ingelheim together with twelve PKU professors and researchers from School of Life Sciences, Health Science Center and College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering gave speeches respectively and held academic communication with the attendees.
