Celebration of the 10th anniversary of KIAA-PKU

Peking University, May. 7, 2017: In the morning of May 4, a symposium was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of KIAA (Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics). The attending guests include officials of PKU, officials from the Kavli Foundation, board members of the Space Telescope Science Institute, members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and representatives from astronomical institutions and astronomy departments of universities in both China and abroad. The symposium was hosted by Wu Xuebing, deputy director of KIAA.

After the seven-minute-long feature documentary about KIAA, which recalled the history and achievements of KIAA, was played, Lin Jianhua, president of PKU, gave a speech to acknowledge the developments achieved by KIAA and to give credit to the faculty members who had made great contributions to it.
Afterwards, Professor He Zishan delivered a work report of KIAA. He shared his suggestions about making a top international institution of scientific research. He advocated to make KIAA the transfer station of Chinese astronomy that connected China and the world.

Dr. Miyoung Chun introduced the 20 Kavli institutes built by the American Kavli Foundation around the world. She gave valuable advice on how to support and tighten the communications of these institutes.
Later on, well-known academics and professors addressed one by one in the meeting. They recalled the difficulties and obstacles in the founding of KIAA, and extended their greatest wishes to the future development of KIAA.

Moreover, the memorandum titled "Cooperation on the Project of Post Doctorate of Kavli Astrophysics" was signed by Prof. He Zishan, Dr. Miyoung Chun, and Director Hitoshi Murayama from Kavli IPMU. In 2018, the project of KIAA-KIPMU will be launched and it is believed that it will promote the cooperation and development of Astronomy in East Asia.
