Nov 03, 2016

Peking University, Oct. 26, 2016: On Oct. 21, The 2016 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Presentation Ceremony was held at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Vice Premier Liu Yandong sent a congratulatory letter. Chen Changzhi, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, together with Wang Gang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee andminister of science and technology attended the ceremony and gave out the prizes.

Gong Qihuang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, professor at the School of Physics of Peking University and director of State Key Laboratory for Artificial Microstructure and Mesoscopic Physics was awarded the “Science and Technology Progress Award.”

Gong has been dedicated to the cutting-edge research of nonlinear optics and that of small-scale optics of space-time for a long time. He proposed the new method for obtaining third-order nonlinear optical materials with ultrafast response and large coefficients through fast charge-transfer, thus introducing the ultrafast low-threshold all-optical switch with high performance. Furthermore, he developed high-resolution optical measurement of femtosecond/ nano space-time and enabled ultrafast light control of nanostructures as well as artificial control of them in the electric state. Gong has received many awards before, including the second prize of National Natural Science Award, the first prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award, the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, Rao Yutai Physics Award of Chinese Physical Society, Wang Dayan Award of Chinese Optical Society etc..

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established in1994 by four financiers from Hong Kong: Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Kuowei. It aims at rewarding outstanding Chinese scientists, promoting science and technology as well as encouraging scientific innovation in China. In the past 22 years, Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation has already awarded 1198 outstanding scientists, among whom 51 were awarded this year. So far, Peking University, with 46 awards from the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation won by its academicians, has won the most awards.
