The Ramanujan Prize, which is named after an Indian gifted mathematician Ramanujan, is awarded annually to a mathematician who is under 45 years old and has done outstanding work in a developing country. This year, through a stringent screening process, the committee decided to award the prize to Professor Xu Chenyang. The prize is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to algebraic geometry, especially birational geometry, and the development of algebraic geometry in China.
Xu Chenyang studied in school of mathematical sciences, Peking University from 1999 to 2004. After he earned his doctorate from Princeton University in 2008, he taught in many famous American colleges and universities. In 2012, he came back to Peking University and joined BICMR.
