26 PKU professors elected Yangtze River Scholars

Peking University, May 1st, 2016: Recently, the Ministry of Education  has announced the list of Yangtze River Scholars in 2015. 412 professors are appointed as Yangtze River  Scholars, including152 distinguished professors, 49 visiting professors, and 211 young scholars. 26 professors at Peking University are elected as Yangtze River Scholars, and among them 11 distinguished professors and 15 young scholars. The number is on a par with that of Tsinghua University, both ranking the highest among institutions across the country.

Background Information:
Yangtze River Scholars” is a special high-talent elite project started in 1998 with the help of the People’s Republic of China as well as Li KaShing Foundation. It aims at improving the academic status of Chinese universities and revitalizing Chinese high education. Now, it is one of the most authorized evaluations of Chinese academicians.
 
“Yangtze River Scholars” is an important part of the “National Major Elite Program”, and constitutes national elite system with “Thousand Talents Program” (or The Recruitment Program of Global Experts) and “ Youth Talents Development Plan”. Since 2011, Peking University has been with the most Yangtze River Scholars for four years. Till now, there are 211 Yangtze River Scholars at  Peking University, including 152 distinguished professors, 44 visiting professors, and 15 young scholars.
