Sun Yujie wins the individual epee championship

Peking University April 15, 2016: On April 13, 2016, Asian Fencing Championships openedin Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Sun Yujie, an undergraduate from the School of Government of Peking University, won the individual championship of Women’s Epee.

More than 300 athletes from over 20 countries and areas attended this Asian Fencing Championships. There were altogether 12 individual and collective events. China sent all its top athletes to attend the Championships. Day 1 of the Championships saw Chinese delegation win one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

Sun Yujie struggled to defeat the famous Korean athlete Shin A-lamand entered the final. In the final, Sun Yujie’s opponent was her “best teammate and best roommate”, Xu Anqi. Eventually, Sun defeated Xu at 15 to 7 and won the championship. Sun, who was always humorous, joked after the final that the goddess of luck must have received her wechat and came to play with her.

Sun Yujie was admitted into the School of Government of Peking University in 2013. She said that she had always been dreaming of studying at Peking University since she was little . Sun had to rush between the national team and the classroom because of the training. However, she enjoyed herself in all of these. Every time she went back to the school, her teachers and classmates would help her with her study. Sun was deeply moved by them and felt very grateful for their kindness.

Professor Wang Dongmin, from the Department of Physical Education of Peking University, said to the reporter that he hoped Sun Yujie could enjoy the matches in Rio Olympic Games and realize her dream of individual championship there. Wu Xinran, the president of Fencing Club of Peking University said that he hoped Sun could keep on her good performance in Rio Olympic Games and write a new chapter in her career. 
 


The Awarding Ceremony

When it came to the gold medal in the Asian Fencing championships and the way to defend her championship in the Rio Olympic Games, Sun said that the gold medal belonged not only to her, but also to the whole team, because she could never have make it without her teammates and her coach’s support. She thought that all group members have tried their best and sacrificed a lot and it would take more efforts and hard work of the whole teamto achieve success in Rio Olympic Games.

Sun Yujie now is still in Wuxi attending 2016 Asian Fencing Championships and she will come back to Beijing on April 18. On April 19, she will go to Brazil to attend 2016 World Cup Games.
