Seven PKU professors elected members of CAS and CAE

Peking University, Dec .7, 2015: Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) announced that it has elected 61 new academicians on December 7 while Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) also released its 70 member list of co-opted academicians. Peking University tops three times in a row among all universities and colleges in China since 2011.

CAS and CAE are the national academies respectively for the natural science and engineering. “Academician” is the highest academic title conferred on national scientists and experts working in scientific and technological fields in China. The title of academician is a lifelong honor.

According to the official academician lists of CAS and CAE, 7 professors are from Peking University.

Prof. Zhang Pingwen from School of Mathematical Science and Prof. Xie Xincheng from School of Physics were elected as CAS academician of Mathematics and Physics section. Prof. Xi Zhenfeng from College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering were also honored as CAS academicians of Chemistry section. Prof. Huang Ru from School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was elected as CAE academician of information technology sciences section. Prof. Yu Dapeng from School of Physics and Prof. Ni Jinren from College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering were elected as CAS academician of the technological sciences section. Prof. Zhang Yuanhang from College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering were elected as CAE academician of Environment and Textile Engineering section.
 
Thus so far, PKU has up to 86 academicians including 74 CAS academicians, 13 CAE academicians and 21 academicians of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World.
