Prof. Chang Zengyi becomes the 16th President of FAOBMB

Peking University, Oct. 14, 2015: Prof. Chang Zengyi, director of the Center for Protein Science, was elected as the sixteenth president of The Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists by a secret ballot on October 10th.

Prof. Chang is a professor of the School of Life Sciences and an adjunct professor of the Center for History and Philosophy of Science in Peking University. Since Jan. 1 of 2016, he will work as President-elect of FAOBMB for a year, then as president for three years (2017-2019), and finally as Past-president of FAOBMB till 2021.

Professor Chang was nominated as the official candidate by academician Li Lin, the current director of Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and academician Lin Qishui, the former president of FAOBMB, and he will be the second Chinese professor who serves as the president of FAOBMB after Lin Qishui.

FAOBMB, founded in 1972, is one regional union of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Its members includes Australia, Bangladesh, Hawaii, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Burma, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, China,  Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong , China.
