Five PKU professors elected members of Chinese Academy of Sciences

Peking University, Dec. 20, 2012: Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released the list of 2013 new elected academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences on Dec. 19. Professors Chen Shiyi, Ou Yangqi, Cheng Heping, Gong Qihuang and Fang Daining are on the list and Peking University tops twice in a row among all universities and colleges in China since 2011.

Professor Chen Shiyi, from College of Engineering, and Professor Ouyang Qi, from School of Physics, were elected as academicians of the mathematics and physics section. Professor Cheng Heping, from Institute of Molecular Medicine, was elected as academician of the life sciences and medical section. Professor Gong Qihuang, from School of Physics, was elected as academician of information technology sciences. Professor Fang Daining, from College of Engineering, was elected as academician of the technological sciences section.

 

CAS academician is the highest academic honor in the field of science and technology in China, This year CAS elected 53 new academicians and 9 foreign academicians in total.

 

Thus so far, PKU has up to 96 academicians including 67 CAS academicians, 9 CAE academicians and 20 academicians of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World.
