Nov 28, 2012

Peking University, Nov. 28, 2012: The Econometric Society named Cai Hongbin, Dean of Guanghua School of Management an officer to its council earlier this month.

The Econometric Society, founded in 1930, is the world's most influential society in the field of economics, and has attracted worldwide top economists to be its Fellows, among whom most are Nobel laureates in economics. The Society's primary objective is to use strict scientific research approaches to promote unification of theoretical economics and empirical economics, and to promote the development of modern economics.

The Council of the Society is elected by fellows from six regions in the world. Its main duty is to make decisions on all aspects of the Society's operations and governance through its subcommittee called the Executive Committee. Professor Cai, acting as representative council from the Far East, is the first scholar to enter the Council from mainland China. Previously, he was appointed a member into the Society's Governance Committee to participate in the work of revision of the Society's Constitution and structure.

Professor Cai Hongbin has made significant contributions to the field of game theory, information economics, the theory of industrial organization, political economics and the Chinese economy. Since joining the Guanghua School of Management in 2005, he has focused his research on combining economic theories with Chinese economic practice. He has led a team of young scholars to study economic problems in China using strict and standard economic approaches, and has obtained remarkable achievements.

Recently, one of his papers was accepted for publication in a first-class international journal. Professor Cai's appointment into the Council of the Econometric Society indicates that China's economic studies have been recognized by the international economics community. It also reflects that Chinese economists increasingly have a greater influence in the world's academic fields.

“I am very honored to be elected as Officer of the Econometric Society Council and I hope that with the improvement of China's economic research, the world's economic society will hear more voices from China", said he.
