The 2012 China (Beijing) Film Annual Conference kicks off

Peking University, Oct. 31, 2012: Themed “Film: Culture and Influence”, the 2012 China (Beijing) Film Annual Conference was unveiled at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center, Peking University (PKU) on the morning of October 27, 2012.

 

 

The conference was jointly organized by the China National Film Museum and School of Arts, PKU, guided by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee and the Film Bureau of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), and supported by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio, Film and Television.

 

PKU Council Chairman Zhu Shanlu gave special instructions for the organization of this conference, poin,ting out the significance of the conference. Before the opening ceremony, Zhu Shanlu met the guests of the conference at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.

 

At 9 a.m., the China 2012 (Beijing) Film Annual Conference officially kicked off. Professor Wang Yichuan, Dean of School of Arts, PKU, hosted the opening ceremony. Many special guests delivered speeches.

 

 

Lu Wei, Vice-Mayor of Beijing and Minister of the Publicity Department of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, stressed the importance of culture as the core of the soft power and discussed four issues concerning the development of cultural soft power and film competitiveness: improving the quality of story-telling in films, increasing the use of technology, strengthening collaboration and fostering film masters.

 

Zhang Peimin, Vice-Director of the Film Bureau of SARFT, believed that an effective channel which could link film creators and scholars should be built during this conference. He also pointed out that Chinese film should learn from Hollywood to form its own features and aim at spreading Chinese cultures.

 

Pang Wei, Vice-Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio, Film and Television, introduced the prevalent development trend of the film industry in Beijing. Also she introduced the preparations for the 2013 Beijing International Film Festival.

 

PKU Vice-President Liu Wei expressed that PKU is working hard to educate and develop talents in Chinese film industry, and is willing to make greater contributions to the development of national soft power.

 

Yang Yong’an, Curator of the China National Film Museum, gave an introduction of the social welfare activities and academic activities that the China National Film Museum had organized in recent years before sharing his opinions on the theme of the conference.

 

La Peikang, Vice-Director of SARFT, delivered a keynote speech in which he introduced the status quo of the creation and production of Chinese films, the development of film market, the innovation of film technology and so on. He also proposed measures to be taken against the challenges posed by imported films in terms of the creation of films, cultural difference, marketing and macro-policy support as well.

 

After the opening ceremony and the keynote speech, four summit seminars were held during the day, focusing on the culture and influence of films, the ways for Chinese films to go abroad, the way of cultural transmissions in films and the means of cultural expression in worldwide films respectively.

 

 

The 2012 China (Beijing) Film Annual Conference lasted for two days, including eleven seminars of different themes in total. Besides, a series of related activities were held at PKU and the China National Film Museum, including academic forums, salons of film critics and film displays. After the conference, the organizers will publish the symposium of the conference.
