PKU and CAS collaborate in climate change

Peking University, Apr. 24, 2012: The Research Institute of Climate Change was recently established, jointly by Peking University (PKU) and the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD).

 

As the first supporting research organization founded in Universities by CASAD, the Institute will carry out the sustaining research on climate change and biological diversity and accumulate fundamental research data, aiming to provide the consulting and reference for our nation and CAS to tackle the issue of climate change.

Academician Bai Chunli, President of CAS and executive chairman of the CASAD, delivered  the inaugural address on April 19.

 

 “With the obvious complementary advantages, CAS and PKU will work together to promote the development of climate change worldwide and I believe our collaboration in this field will benefit both parties”, Bai pointed out.

 

Boast of the diversified researchers, the Institute has accumulated abundant achievements in several fields, such as carbon cycle and plant diversity, which have been published on Nature, Science and PNAS. “The Institute will hold domestic and international seminars regularly which will be a platform for the experts in this field to exchange their ideas”, said Academician Fang Jingyun, who acts as the director of the institute.

 

On behalf of PKU, Chairman of PKU Council Zhu Shanlu stated the significance of the research on climate change in China and promised to fully support the work of the Institute.
