Nov 08, 2017
Peking University, Oct. 26, 2017: After the closing session of the 19th CPC National Congress, the 13th CPC PKU Congress is also approaching. At this special time, Peking University official Wechat account shared 19 stories of students growing up with PKU in the past 5 years. PKU News chooses 9 stories here to tell.

2012 PKU Sports Night witnessed the first time for me to stand on the stage of Peking University Hall and perform as a member of PKU Student Dance Group. From that time on, I spent the most wonderful 4 years with friends from the dancing group.

Though I went to PHBS after graduation, I missed Yanyuan so much that I went back here as a visitor before PKU 120th anniversary launching ceremony.

From the School of Journalism and Communication at Yanyuan to PHBS at Shenzhen, I have always valued the friendship I built and knowledge I obtained. I also believe my experiences at PKU will constantly motivate me in the future.

Wang Fan

Class of 2016 from the School of Law, now Youth League Committee Vice Secretary at the School of Government.

From Law School to the School of Government, I have witnessed a lot of changes at Yanyuan. I was lucky to enjoy newly-installed air conditioners at dorms upon entering PKU in 2012. I am also pleased to see that our undergraduates can enjoy more now, like changing their majors more freely and having more international exchange opportunities.

Though changing from student to teacher, I feel that the PKU spirits of love and perseverance remain unchanged. I wish PKU a better future.

Pu Le

Class of 2016 from the School of International Studies, starting his graduate study at Guanghua School of Management from 2017.

I still remember that on October 2, 2012, I showed visitors around campus as a voluntary guide. A freshman, I felt proud of PKU when seeing the smiling faces of visitors.

On July 20, 2017, I started to pack up for the approaching life as a graduate student. During the past year of teaching at a rural area in Qinghai Province, I had always remembered my identity as a student from PKU and tried hard to improve myself.

In these 5 years, I have grown up together with PKU. In days to come, I will remain true to my aspiration and move forward.

He Sisi

Class of 2016 undergraduate from the School of International Studies, first year graduate student at the School of Economics now.

On January 12, 2012, I took part in the second round of interview at PKU Winter Camp of Arts. At that time, I was only a nervous girl with yearning for entering Peking University.

On May 4, 2017, I was at the launching ceremony of PKU 120th Anniversary as a student volunteer. Witnessing the exciting moment, I was proud of Peking University.

I know I will leave PKU one day, but I believe the things I have learned here will become my lifetime treasure.

Liu Ruochuan

Associate professor at the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research (BICMR)

I got a gold medal in the 40th International Mathematical Olympiad in 1999 and then was admitted to the School of Mathematics at Peking University. Peking University has impressed me with its freedom, openness and inclusiveness. Thus I had more time to do something I liked. After I had finished all required courses, I was allowed to get the bachelor degree one year in advance. I also graduated one year earlier for my graduate study.

Now I am back here as an associate professor at BICMR. In recent years, the academic environment has become much better and more attention is paid to basic subjects. With the solid platform here, I am able to concentrate on research and teaching. The teaching part is very rewarding, which brings me lots of pleasure.

Li Hong

Teacher at Peking University Opera Theater

Five years ago, I finished my study at Russia and began to teach at Peking University Opera Theater. At that time I had just won a gold medal in a Finnish international vocal competition. With great confidence, I started my teaching career.

However, I can hardly forget the scene at the end of my first class. The confused look of students made me feel disturbed and guilty. At the end of the first semester, a student evaluated that “Ms. Li did not teach as well as she sang”. As a result, I began to participate in teaching workshops at Peking University to learn from other good teachers and to listen to students' feedbacks.

I gradually formed my own teaching style. And the class covered topics from singing skills, singing methods, vocal theories, aesthetic basis to acoustic analysis. Later students evaluated that “Ms. Li sang well and taught well” and “the teacher is very passionate and caring”.

Within five years, I have won the first prize in Peking University young teacher teaching skills competition, first prize in Beijing young teacher teaching competition, and especially PKU most welcomed teacher award. In the last five years, I have turned from a good singer to a good teacher and singer. I enjoy this change.

Best wishes for the 120th anniversary of Peking University. Hope we make new achievement on the way to "Double Top Tier".

Ju Shijiang

Manager of cafeteria on second floor of Yiyuan Dining Hall and Songlin Restaurant

There is a photo with Professor Lou Yulie in 2012. Professor Lou usually dined in cafeteria on second floor of Yiyuan Dining Hall. Although not well equipped with academic background, influenced by the school's rich cultural atmosphere, coupled with my hobby on calligraphy, I often talked with professor Lou when he came here.

In 2017, I cooked non-iodine food for a student with hyperthyroidism. I just wanted to offer some help, but once this was known by students, I suddenly got famous on the campus, which I have never expected.

This is the 16th year that I have been on this campus. The encouragement from students inspires us to cook every meal with heart and to provide better service for them.

I came from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Haidian Branch to work at the Department of Security, PKU in January, 2012. In the past five years, I have seen great development of Peking University. I am also gradually finding my own values.

My colleagues and I ensure the safety of PKU students and faculties. In the next few years, I hope to continue to work hard for it.

Han Cantao: in Shenzhen, October 2017

After graduation, everyone goes their own ways. But memories about Yanyuan are as vivid as it used to be. Hope all my roomies achieve a lot in their own field. Look forward to our next meeting.

Shang Fei: in Qinghai, July 2017

Four years of undergraduate study is one of the fastest growing period in my life. Yanyuan has given me not only the inspiring courses and colorful campus life, but also its rigorous attitude and philosophy of life. During my last year in Qinghai, I missed Yanyuan from time to time. Now back to Yanyuan as a graduate student, when my friends have been moving along their own life track, I am also continuing to move forward and bearing the initiatives in my mind.

Gao Yanshan: in Beijing, June 2017.

After graduation we are not in the same place anymore, but we can always look at the same sky, remember the same Yanyuan in mind, and recall the friends sharing the same room.

Li Linyin: at St. Vasily Church, Red Square, Moscow, September 2017.

I took the photo shortly after arriving at Moscow. I will be an exchange student at Moscow State University for one semester. It has been freezing outside. The moment I saw the photo of the four of us in dormitory in Yanyuan, the beautiful memories flooded into my mind. Although we have each embarked on a different path but in the future we will still be linked together.
