The Career Fair for International Students in China held in Peking University

Peking University, April. 27, 2017: On April 22, 2017, 39 enterprises and around 2700 international students attended a foreigner’s career fair at PKU. PKU Vice President Li Yansong, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) Cheng Jiacai and former Director-General of CSCSE Bai Zhangde, attended the fair.

This was the biggest career fair ever held for international students after the enactment of the policy allowing outstanding international students to work in China. Prestigious Chinese enterprises such as China Railway Construction, China Power Construction and Hainan Airlines offered more than 500 positions, ranging from civil engineering, intelligent manufacturing, new materials and electronic information science, to finance, services, consulting, law and education. One appeal of this fair was the active engagement of many scientific and innovative technological enterprises from Zhongguancun Haidian Science and Technology Park, who are willing to help international students set up their own businesses.
 
Around 2700 foreign students from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other well-known universities and scientific research institutions participated in the fair. Venezuelan He Sai (CARABALLO FERNANDEZ JOSE ANTONIO) is a junior student from Peking University Yuan Pei College, who studies international economics and trade. He enjoys Chinese culture and loves to make Chinese friends. He said that compared with Venezuela, he would prefer to stay in China in the future. Mexican student Anthony (QUIROZ SOTO, ANTONIO ROBERTO), studying international politics in the School of International Studies at Peking University, has stayed in China for five years. He hopes that he will find an internship through the career fair. He believes that in the context of globalization, young people with multiple cultural backgrounds will be more popular with employers.

With the "One Belt, One Road" policy proceeding, China's demand for international talents is growing. International talent is of great significance in helping China to build an open economy. International students who understand Chinese culture and have professional qualities are undoubtedly important human resources. China has also implemented a variety of policies to attract outstanding foreign talents. In February 2016, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China though the General Office of the State Council issued the “Opinions on Strengthening the Management of Permanent Residence of Foreigners”. In March 2016, the Central Committee issued the “Notice on Deepening the Reform of the System of Talent Development”, which clearly underlined the importance of making full use of domestic and foreign talent resources. In January 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education jointly issued the “Notice of the matter” to allow the employment of qualified foreign graduates without any work experience.
 
Supporting foreign students to be employed is also an important part of the higher education cultivating process. Peking University and other groups have actively built a comprehensive service platform to promote the competitiveness of students. Since 2016, the Career Fair for International Students in China has been held at Peking University for three times. The school also founded the "Lead and Win in China" student internship series of projects. It attracted the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, University of California, Columbia University, Monash University and other well-known overseas universities to actively participate. It organized a number of innovative salon and alumni cafes for international students, providing platforms for foreign students to innovate and start their own businesses.
