Optimization of PKU Underground Space Resources

Peking University, April 8, 2017: The improvement of working environment has always been a vital concernto teachers and students in campus planning. On April 6, Chairman of Peking University Council Hao Ping and PKU President Lin Jianhua conducted field researches in underground parking lots of Peking University Chengfuyuan Science Park, Classroom Building No. 2 and Natural Science Classroom Building. Afterwards, PKU senior officials held an office meeting on the optimization of PKU underground space resources at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
 
Officials from relevant departments first gave a detailed introduction of the current construction and operation of underground space resources. Then the attendees exchanged suggestions for improvement, andheld in-depth discussions on the reconstruction and management of underground parking lots.
 
 

The meeting scene
 
The meeting emphasized the importance of scientific planning. In order to make full use of the underground space, relevant departments should make further efforts to specify each zone’s respective functions and cater to the staff and students’ needs. Attendees were especially concerned with underground parking lots and urged for better planning and regulation.
 
The combination of space construction and PKU campus culture was also highlighted. Hao Ping called for the promotion of campus culture andthus pointed out that the construction of underground space should create a warm and pleasant atmosphere in the university and be consistent with the style and temperament of PKU.

In the meantime, Wang Yanglin, executive vice president of Peking University, responded to the concerns regarding the bidding system and sources of financing. He stressed that the laws of engineering and construction should be strictly observed while accelerating the construction process, and we should actively and steadily promote bidding and other projects.
 
In the next stage, PKU would further improve the campus environment based on the optimization of underground space resources. The first aim is to break down the barriers and connect the underground parking lots in several adjacent buildings so as to make the best of parking resources. The second is to speed up infrastructure construction in underground parking lots. The third is to focus on the maintenance work, improving the traffic control on campus, perfecting management regulations of parking lot uses, andstep by step increasing the efficiency of the use of resources.
