Peking University, Nov. 24, 2016: On November 22, 2016, a decision was passed by the principal’s office; that from December 1, 2016, the PKU global internet service will be completely free, apart from the basic internet rental fee of 10 RMB per month.
There are three major improvements recently: First and foremost, there will be no restriction on the sites you visit. As we all know, an extra fee has to be paid if you surf on specific sites for more than 120 hours. Now students don’t have to worry about that any longer, for a 10 RMB monthly rental fee will cover all internet access on campus. Secondly, PKU has become a member of eduroam. Eduroam is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows students to access free internet when visiting other participating institutions around the world. Thirdly, a shift of your position will not cut your connection to Wireless PKU anymore. For example, in the past, if you walked from the library to the Lee Shau Kee Building, you had to reconnect to Wireless PKU. Now there is no need to do so. This will make the internet connection more convenient and stable, without frequent disruptions due to your movement.
PKU Computer Center is dedicated to providing a high-speed, safe, stable, convenient and efficient internet service for everyone on campus. Besides basic internet service, it provides a wide range of other services including e-mail, computer room service and the downloading of legitimate software. It is also a pioneer of developing the electronic management system of the university, providing a system which covers nearly all the campus affairs from course selection to human resource management. It has successfully connected different departments and has simplified many administrative processes. With the support of PKU Computer Center, campus affairs have become more efficient than ever.
