The 10th “May 4th Medals for Students” and “May 4th Trophies for Classes” Award Ceremony held

Peking University, May 6, 2016: On the afternoon of April 28th, the 10th Peking University “May 4th Medals for Students” Final Defense and the 10th “May 4th Medals for Students” and “May 4th Trophies for Classes” award ceremony, were grandly celebrated in the Sunshine Hall of the Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
 
In the final field, 14 students shared their learning processes and achievements in many aspects by presenting them with PPT, video or faculty recommendations. The final judge committee consisted of 11 professors, 3 former prize-winners and 1 student supervisor, and they had a Q & A session with the candidates. There were around 300 teachers and students from different departments watching and studying. At last, the judge committee picked 5 doctoral candidates, 2 masterscandidates and 3 undergraduates as winners of the“May 4th Medals for Students”.
 

 
As the director of the final judge committee and vice-president of the School of Graduate Students, Professor Gong Qihuang announced the award lists on behalf of the final judge committee. Chair of Peking University Council Zhu Shanlu and Zhan Qimin presented medals to the prize winners together. Cheng Feng, doctoral candidate from the School of Earth and Space Sciences gave a speech as the representative of prize-winners.
 
Zhu Shanlu, on behalf of the school and students and teachers, congratulated the students and classes who won the award. In the conclusion of his speech, he emphasized that President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang both pointed out that students should have a full development when they visited Peking University. And the reason why Peking University set up such awards was that the spirit of May 4th stood for the direction of the school values, which could encourage students to inherently develop such spirit. He hoped that students at Peking University could work hard to gain new achievements and realize the dreams of himself or herself and of the school and the country.
 


“May 4th Medals for Students” and “May 4th Trophies for Classes” were set up before the 100th anniversary of Peking University, and they are the highest awards for students and classes. By now, 93 students and 62 classes have won the prizes.
