The New Year Poetry Recitation Conference and PKU Voluntary Cultural Festival inaugurated

Peking University, December 18, 2015: On December 1, the 2016 New Year Recitation Conference of Chinese and Foreign Poetry — “On Wings of Songs,” along with the opening ceremony of the 3rd PKU Voluntary Cultural Festival — “PKU Voluntary Tree Action” was held in PKU Hall. Organized by Fanxing Poetry Society, PKU Communist Youth League Committee, PKU Love Foundation and PKU Youth Volunteers Association, the activity invited renowned Chinese artists to take part in and offered a poetic and musical feast for audience.

CCTV host Wu Peng, Fanxing Poetry Society founder Li Xiaowen, and PKU doctoral student Wang Fan hosted the recitation conference. The conference consisted of four themes, respectively entitled "The White Birds," "Butterflies," "Snow Mountain as the Great Temple" and "On Wings of Songs." Renowned Chinese artistes as Qiao Zhen, Pu Cunxin, Qu Xianhe, Gao Ming, Ren Zhihe, Chen Duo, Liu Fangfei, Chen Hong, Ye Shanglin and Yu Ying  elocuted “the White Birds,” “I Do Miss You,” “My Prairie” and other famous modern poetry to the audience. Famous singers, dancers and traditional Chinese instrumentalists also contributed poetic and fascinating performances. The audience were enthralled by the prowess and mastery of the artists.


At the end of the conference, Ye Jingyi, Vice Secretary of CPC Peking University Committee, announced the launch of the 3rd Voluntary Culture Festival: “Voluntary Tree Action.” The performers and guests, along with all the audience present, lightened the “PKU Voluntary Tree,” which signifies the perpetual prosperity of PKU voluntary culture and calls on everyone to dedicate themselves to the practice and dissemination of the volunteer spirit.

After this conference, Peking University will commence series of voluntary activities with the six main themes: "Lively and Civilized Campus," "Warm and Associated Community," "Caring and devoting educational tutorial," "Respect and interact with the elderly," "Love and modify my hometown" and "Witness great competitions and celebrations," which all present the outstanding achievement of PKU students who devote to voluntary work and create the atmosphere of contributing to charity. Volunteers can apply for the voluntary programs launched in and off campus through the wechat official account of “PKU Voluntary Tree.”
 

Love Foundation of Peking University founded in 2013 has long been operating to support PKU voluntary programs which aim to enhance the level of education in less developed area and promote educational equality. This October, PKU Youth League Committee, Love Foundation and Fanxing Poetry Society cooperated for the first time and conducted a poetry recitation conference entitled "Viewing the Flowers in Chang’an" for over a hundred ethnic minority teachers who devoted themselves to educations in less developed area, disseminating the power of charity.
