The 12th PKU International Cultural Festival kicks off with opening Ceremony

Peking University, Oct. 25, 2015: The 2015 Peking University (PKU) International Cultural Festival (ICF) and the Global Youth Innovation Festival got off to a spectacular start on October 25th at the Square of theCentennial Hall at Peking University (PKU).
 
The events are organized under the theme of “I Act”, elaborating further into three sub-themes — “Love Arts”, “Love Innovation” and “Love Technology”. Students from 56 countries and regions partaked in this annual event, bringing the flavor of their motherlands to the international audience. 
 
The opening event was co-hosted by Chinese student representative Gaite and overseas student representative Yu Yanhua. PKU President Lin Jianhua and other distinguished guests, including Fang Jun, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, Xia Jianhui, Deputy Director of the National Han Office, Zhang Ning, Deputy Secretary of the China Scholarship Council (CSC) etc,attended the opening ceremony. Over 20 foreign diplomats and foreign-student alumni were also in attendance at the related events, including Masood Khalid, Pakistani Ambassador in China and Suchart Thada Thamrongvech, former Minister of Education and Minister of Finance in Thailand etc.
 
President Lin addressed at the opening ceremony, speaking highly of the International Cultural Festival as the manifestation of the diverse and innovative culture of PKU. He also emphasized the importance of combining the technological and cultural innovation with the youth entrepreneurship. Minister Thamrongvech, as an international alumnus of PKU, also shared his thought on partaking in the ICF, and wished the event great success.
 
As the student representatives, Zhuang Peiwen from Yuanpei College and Hua Zilong from the UK were invited to share their stories of being on the organizing team of the event. After that, President Lin handed over the mascot flag of ICF to overseas student representative, announced the commencement of the 12th International Cultural Festival.
 
At the exhibition area, students coming from the same country or region have set up their booths with great care to show the best of their motherlands. In addition to these traditional cultural activities, students also worked jointly to promote the tech-related events, such as the “iCAN-Xtecher” booth for visitors to experience the cutting-edge technology.
 
The International Cultural Festival dates back to 2004. Dedicated to creating opportunities for local and overseas students to mingle and develop mutual understanding, it has always beenthe highlight of student life on campus.
