Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 20, 2010: The Computer Center of Peking University (PKUCC) has formally introduced the PKU Multi-User Desktop Video Conferencing System and its services to the campus since April 16. User Manual for the New Video Conferencing System

In the past, the Computer Center frequently received requests for holding small video conferences: users wished to be able to have meetings with a group of people while sitting at their respective home or office. For instance, cooperation project seminars that happen on a regular basis, preparation and organization of international conferences, distant-lecturing and Q&A sessions, online video interviews, etc. Now, all of these demands can be easily met by this newly launched video conferencing system.

The Multi-User Desktop Video Conferencing System allows up to 25 participants to attend the conference simultaneously, with numerous useful functions as well as smooth sonic and visual display. The system not only supports interactive video communication, PPT demonstration, but also sharing and collaborative editing on Word files. In addition, the system supports desktop sharing, allowing remote operation. The Moderator of the conference can record the entire meeting for the sake of its preservation and future display. The multi-point interaction functionality of the Multi-User Desktop Video Conferencing System cannot be matched by other instant messaging software like QQ or Skype.

By now, the user manual for this very system has been available in PKU's campus network, on the "network services - Desktop Video Conferencing Services" page.
