Delegation of University of Groningen Visits PUHSC

Peking University, Beijing, May 27, 2010: On the afternoon of May 20, Prof. Sibrand Poppema, President of the University of Groningen (RUG), the Netherlands, visited Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC). A conference attended by Prof. Wang Xian, Vice President of PUHSC, presided by Prof. Sun Qiudan, Director of Office of International Cooperation at PUHSC, was held to welcome Prof. Poppema and his delegation.

 

Prof. Wang Xian gave the delegation a warm welcome before President Poppema introduced the conditions of education, research, and international relations in RUG. Prof. Sun Qiudan introduced the general state of affairs in PUHSC, and went on with further communication about international students and faculties’ exchange, research cooperation between the two sides.

 

 

An academic seminar was held after the welcoming ceremony as professors of Neuroscience, Generic Epidemiology, Pathology, Liver and Gastroenterology, Microbiology, Pediatrics from RUG visited corresponding laboratories respectively and communicated with experts in PUHSC. It was attended by Prof. Li Lingsong, Director of Stem Cell Research Center PUHSC, Prof. Wang Taiping, Executive Vice Director of PUHSC, Prof. Wang Yuedan, Vice Dean of Department of Immunology, Prof. Chen Xiangmei from Department of Microbiology, Prof. Li Nan from Department of Respiratory Medicine, Peking University First Hospital, and Prof. Zhong Xuhui from Department of Pediatrics, PKU First Hospital.

 

The visit from the delegation of the University of Groningen advanced the research communication, students’ exchange, academic cooperation, and friendship between the two sides.

 

The University of Groningen (RUG), located in the city of Groningen, was founded in 1614. It is the second oldest university in the Netherlands as well as one of its largest, world-famous for its excellence in researches. The University of Groningen has nine faculties that offer programs and courses in the fields of humanities, social sciences, law, economics and business, spatial sciences, life sciences, and natural sciences and technology.
