Coorperation Agreement Signed between PKU and Chengchi University

Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 30, 2010 : On April 26, delegation from Taiwan’s Chengchi University led by President Wu Se-hwa visited Peking University. Prof. Zhou Qifeng, President of Peking University, together with Prof. Li Yansong, Assistant President of PKU and Director of Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Prof. Chen Pingyuan, Dean of Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Zhu Qiang, Director of Peking University Library, Yang Aimin, Director of Office of Student Financial Aid, and Xia Hongwei, Vice Director of Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, met with the guests at Linhuxuan.

 


 

Peking University President Zhou Qifeng made a brief introduction of the recent progress of PKU. He then mentioned PKU’s development in international cooperation and student exchange programs, as well as PKU’s policy favoring the students with financial difficulty. Also, both President Zhou and President Wu agreed that it is meaningful to engage more students in exchange programs which would broaden their horizon and therefore make them more competitive in future career.


After the meeting, agreements of exchange programs for faculty and students were signed respectively, as an effort to promote further communication and cooperation in academic research, education and other aspects between the two universities.


Aside from the meeting, the delegation paid visit to PKU Library, Office of Student Financial Aid, and Student dormitory building. Also, an informal discussion between the professors of Chinese from both schools was held prior the meeting in Linhuxuan.


Chengchi University was founded in 1927. It is one of the most prestigious universities listed on the "Five-Year Fifty Billion NTD Initiative" in Taiwan, and is noted for teaching and research in social sciences and humanities, especially in literature, history, philosophy, public administration, law, business, communication, international relations, and analysis on cross-strait relations. Now there are nine colleges, 33 departments, and some 15,000 students and 600 full-time teachers at Chengchi University.
