Delegation from Cornell University visits PKU

Peking University, Nov. 5, 2013: On October 31th, a delegation from Cornell University, which was led by Professor Fredrik Logevall, Vice Provost for International Affairs, paid a visit to Peking University.


President Wang Enge outlined to the guests the latest development of academic education at PKU as well as the university’s management of international student affairs. According to him, there are now around 2500 registered international students at PKU. Meanwhile, every year, thousands of international students  spend a semester as exchange students or attend the PKU Summer School Program. “PKU would give major priority to the cooperation between PKU and Cornell University”, said Wang.


Professor Logevall said that the visit was a precious opportunity for the enhancement of the long-lasting partnership between the two universities. He pointed out that the major tasks for Cornell at present was to promote the globalization of education and to develop the cultural consciousness of students.


Professor Gretchen Ritter, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell, gave a sketch of Cornell’s plan to found its medical school. In response, Wang Enge described PKU’s project of founding the Peking University International Hospital and highlighted PKU’s endeavors concerning medical research and clinical application.


Professor Li Chenjian, vice dean of the School of Life Science at PKU, basing upon his working experience at both universities, remarked that different institutions could collaborate to bring about a win-win situation.


Professor Soumitra Dutta, dean of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell, agreed with Li and expressed that PKU and Cornell could put more emphasis on their cooperation in MBA programs.


On November 1st, the delegation from Cornell attended the opening ceremony of Beijing Forum 2013.
